Steerable device for soft tissue core biopsy or fine needle aspiration
Project Overview
Radiologists perform imaged guided biopsy and sometimes the target mass is missed requiring the biopsy needle to be withdrawn almost completely and redirected. This process is time consuming and puts the patient in more pain. The goal of this project is to design a biopsy needle that can be steered toward the mass when it is missed or even steered around vital organs, reaching places that normally couldn’t be done before, without having to withdraw the needle more than a couple centimeters.
