Rehabilitation equipment for ailments in the lower extremities
Project Overview
We propose to design a device, much like a leg press, that will aid the patient in strengthening their lower extremities by allowing the patient to lie on their back with their feet pressed against a static solid plate at a 90° angle. The patient can then move by extending their knees. Elastic bands will be used to attain increasing resistance.
As a closed kinetic chain exercise device, our design enables involvement of multiple muscle groups and joints simultaneously. Additionally with the ability to increase the band resistance, a patient may develop their strength over time according to a treatment plan.
Thus, this device will improve productivity of patients’ rehabilitation by gradually strengthening supporting muscle groups.
