Our lab has designed and constructed several microscope-based instruments for creating 3D nano/microstructured tissue engineered scaffolds. These are used for studying cell-extracellular (ECM) interactions in cancers and fibroses as well as for general cell biology applications. The scaffolds are synthesized from expensive ECM proteins such as collagen, fibronectin and laminin. Ideally scaffolds could be created from multiple components to better mimic the ECM but is not possible in our current setups. We seek a microfluidic device capable of introducing, washing out and recover multiple proteins of low volume (~10-100 microliters) for re-use. Ideally, the device will be controlled by pumps and integrated into the current LabVIEW framework.
