Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a heart defect found in new-borns which can result in blood flowing in the wrong direction, and eventually lead to heart failure. Surgery is necessary to remedy this defect in smaller dogs, however the procedure is delicate and involves unique techniques which require practice to perfect. The goal of this project is to develop a high-fidelity training device that would provide realistic simulation of the PDA ligation procedure in a dog. This in turn will hopefully be able to reduce the hemorrhaging from the PDA vessel that results from trauma during surgical dissection.
