BrainXell: Phase contrast microscope condenser for observation of multi-well cell culture plates

Alter a phase contrast microscope condenser to increase the range of viewable phase contrast images taken on well plates.

Project Overview

The goal for this project is to solve the common problem of having the area of high resolution being much smaller than the entire area seen by a phase contrast microscope when used on 96-well plates. We hope to expand the area of high-resolution phase contrast to the entire well plate by creating a customized condenser that will uphold the same resolution as the current condenser. Through research and prototyping we hope to decide on a feasible solution that solves the resolution problem and is able to be implicated at both BrainXell and smaller research labs.

We have recently finished prototyping our final designs and doing testing to show their effectiveness. Results found that although the designs didn't increase the effective area perfectly, our designs are promising and could be perfected in future semesters to effectively solve the problem.
