Project Overview
The ulnar nerve is a nerve that extends from the central nervous system through the lower arm extremities and is responsible for carrying and transmitting electrical signals required for muscular and skeletal movement. Overuse of the elbow can lead to the fascia band tightening around the ulnar nerve resulting in compressive damage. If the damage in the cubital tunnel is severe, surgery is required. The process of repairing the ulnar nerve is rather complex, requiring the surgeon to navigate between tissue planes and release the fascia, resolving the increased pressure. However, current operative techniques of doing this procedure not only leave the ulnar nerve at risk of being severed, but also require two hands of a skilled surgeon to complete.
