Project Overview
The device will draw a 0.5mL to 2 mL blood sample leaving the catheter in place while the sample is centrifuged to obtain the top layer which is plasma and the bottom layer which is red blood cells. The top layer (plasma) will be removed and sent for testing and the bottom layer of functional red blood cells returned to the patient and the device removed. The blood must remain anti-coagulated and not hemolyze, and the system must be closed so that sterility is maintained.
