Intracranial Pressor Sensor
Project Overview
Hydrocephalus, a condition of abnormal pressure in the head, is most often treated by shunting some excess fluid from the head into the chest cavity. Shunt malfunction is common and involves a wide range of symptoms, from light-headedness to severe mental impairment, making it hard to diagnose. Therefore a medical need exists for an accurate, permanently implantable device that will help monitor the effectiveness of the shunt without requiring additional surgery to replace its batteries.
