Project Overview
The goal of this project is to create a low-cost, portable software application to screen for cervical cancer in under-resourced and rural areas. Cervical cancer screening is important because it is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, often affecting young, otherwise healthy, women. Developing and under-resourced areas often lack the infrastructure for adequate screening programs. If women are able to travel to a clinic where screening is available, oftentimes they are unable to return for a follow-up visit and, once they have left the clinic, they cannot be contacted with their test results. The cervical cancer screening method must provide point of care results. It should not require the expertise of trained health care workers, but should be usable by lay people in the communities of the screened population.
