Project Overview

The function of a bladder cancer resectoscope is to cut a tumor from the bladder wall lining and allow it to be removed via the urethra. This technique is considered non-invasive and is only used in cases when the tumor has not spread into the muscle wall of the bladder. The new design should be optimized for preventing residual tumor cells from forming post-surgery due to tumor spillage and seeding. This will ideally prevent the need for additional chemotherapy post-procedure. The new device will isolate the tumors so that they are less likely to come into contact with the bladder wall.
