Project Overview
Our client, Dr. Christopher Ford, tasked us with designing a device to aid in manual stoma dilation during attempted reinsertion of gastric tubes or “g-tubes”. G-tubes have a tendency to become dislodged or fall out which requires almost immediate replacement if a hospital visit is to be avoided. However, in the event that immediate replacement is not possible and the stoma is allowed to retract, dilation is required before a replacement g-tube can be inserted. The current solution involves utilizing multiple sizes of disposable catheters to manually dilate the stoma which can be time consuming and wasteful. This device would mimic multiple sizes of catheters in one, allowing for seamless transitions and drastically reducing the amount of waste. This device would save time, money, and alleviate possible patient discomfort.
