Hara breathing is a form of abdominal breathing with many therapeutic benefits, but many face difficulties learning the proper techniques. There is demand for an inexpensive and intuitive digital biofeedback device to quickly teach abdominal breathing. Existing technologies are costly and are not designed to induce learning. In this work, an intuitive digital biofeedback device is created to facilitate the teaching of hara breathing. An adjustable belt with a conductive fabric stretch sensor is used to measure expansion of the abdomen during breathing. This information is then displayed in graphical form on an Android application to indicate the state of abdominal expansion. Through various testing we have optimized the selected sensor for this application and demonstrated that the device can be used to effectively represent abdominal expansion.
